Chrome - Review

Chrome is the latest release from Google . A new browser ; there has been a lot of discussion in our wing about the neccesity of a new browser . Well I think , it doesn't harms anyone .
Talking about the features :
Features :

1. Has a JS - Console !! OMG . I never thought that i would be seeing a console (javascript) on a browser . A godly gift to developers .

2. Looks f**kin cool .

3. Creates different processes for tabs . So if you are a noob and have 10-20 tabs open on your browser , then it is good for you . My expert brothers ( with 50 tabs or above ) , stick to good old firefox .

4. It is made on the Gecko Apple Webkit engine (same as that of Firefox) , since we all know Google sponsors Mozilla Foundation . So probably we could expect add-ons and themes for this too .

5. Supports most of the shortcuts like Alt+(arrow keys) and new shortcuts from FF3 . But doesn't supports Ctrl+G (for Transliteration) and some other shortcuts too .

6. Goes with pop-up blockers , prevents phishing , bookmarks , profiling , Quick Bookmarking etc ..

7. You can create Application shortcuts for your net favourites :) . Now that is a thing i have been craving for like 6 years . ( Back then I used IE4 / sometimes Netscape too :P ) .

8 . There is a new thing called incognito window i.e. the sites you will visit , will not appear in your history ( I think it greatly helps the pron noob searchers ) .

I suffered alot at home due to this . Once my sister accidently opened the history and saw all the names of the websites I used to see :( . It was the most embarassing moment of my life . I dumped IE after that .

9. The Page Inspector , it's Awesome . Shows you all the elements along with a nice click nd explore interface and highlights a particular element ( I Hail to Google ) .

10. Has a task manager , to show the memory usage and all the tabs open . Has all the stats like Virtual Memory and PID ( Shift + Esc )

11. Shows the most frequently used webpages and shows you everytime you open a new tab ( can be switched off ) .

12. It has prefetching too ( it has been popular in theory for quite sometime ) , but the new FF3 already got that feature .

All in all a good browser for checking mails and searching short things . Since Old firefox provides most of these features in add-ons , so if you are a pro user and don't pay much attention to the looks , then stick to firefox .

P.S. - My fellow Bloggers , wake up ..

Chrome does not use Gecko engine. It uses Webkit, which is based upon the KHTML rendering engine.

@3: I think the number of processes created doesn't exceed more than 7 or 8. some of the tabs are grouped into same process, but plug-ins run in different processes

@4: It does not use gecko engine. it uses webkit (same as safari)

I just want to mention that IE8 also has most of theses features like incognito mode, different processes for tabs etc...

i dont think you are a big FF fan. One of the best things in FF is, "start searching when i start typing" and no other browser supports that. Not even chrome!

Chrome hangs a lot for me.

oh and if you want to do "mouse only browing" you cant do refresh by doing a right click.

I think you are a bad reviewer. You didnt catch anything expect thats written on other websites.

Chrome also lacks Live Bookmarks of FF. Can't live without that. :(

After reading all that jazz on reddit,Digg,Cnet etc... i expected something which wasnt there !!!

If you want your readers to enjoy ur post then, crosscheck the facts + add something extra observations .

Dude, Google is sort of fooling everyone here. FF's life resides with its addons. Chrome's interface is kinda hybrid of Opera and FF with that Speed Dial thingy of Opera which also comes as an add-on with FF. Also the Stealth Mode (or pron mode, as you say), is provided as an add-on with FF, called "Stealther".
Though its cool with its all new task manager, being fast, memory management, etcetra, it lacks many of the basic functionality which sometimes makes it annoying to use..
1) "Undo Close Tab" is not provided.
2) No confirmation when closing multiple tabs nor saving of previous session.
3) No RSS support
I think its too early to rule any sort of judgement until Chrome's alpha version is out.

"Chrome's interface is kinda hybrid of Opera and FF"

How different do you think a browser's interface can be made? They all have the same buttons, address bar and tabs. By your logic, FF is a copy of IE.

"pron mode"
I think stealthier is not as good as the incognito mode. for example, web services like gmail etc do not work with stealthier but work fine in incognito mode.

I think Chrome is similar to IE8 in more ways than it is similar to FF and opera.

@Anonymous
Look, it goes by instinct. When you open FF, you don't say its similar to IE or Opera, do ya? But suppose you open Flock, you are most likely to say its almost FF, and same goes with Chrome.
I took Stealther as an example to show that except that "new process" thing everything is already available with FF addons (You just need to search a little more, thats it). Fair Enough?

@samwise One of the best things about google chrome is the reading area, Did u notice that it doesnt have a seperate title, menu, status bar. Hence adding lots of space to read !!! This actually makes a lot of difference. It is not a hybrid of ie,ff,opera. It is different !!
